Sponsored run for children with cancer!

I run the full length of the River Rhine, 1,333km from the source to the mouth. Please support this project by buying stretches of my route fpr CHF 13.33 per km. The money collected will be donated to Wallisellerlauf (www.wallisellerlauf.ch). This fun run finances each year a summer camp for children with cancer.

The Rhine has a length of 1,230km and is one of the most important rivers in Europe. From its source in Switzerland at «Lai da Tuma» by the Oberalppass, the Rhine flows through six European countries on its way to the North Sea. The pathway along the various selections of the river amount to around 1,333km.

I will start the run in middle of June 2012. The plan is to run between 30km and 50km each day fpr 35 days, passing through such famous cities as Chu, Vaduz, Constance,Basel, Strassburg, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Wiesbaden, Koblenz, Bonn, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Arnheim until reaching Rotterdam on the North Sea. Between the stages I am planning to take 7 rest days.

The Rhine has fascinated me since my childhood. My mother grew up along different parts of the Rhine, so as a kid I was often walking alongside or swimming in the river. Seven years ago I visited the first time the source of the Rhine. This experience increased again my interest in this remarkable river.

I have been doing long distance running as a hobby for the last 10 years. Over that time I have run over 60 events. In 2002 I ran my first marathon in Cologne along the Rhine. In 2005 I ran for the first time at the Wallisellerlauf and became a big supporter of the event.
